Forum Title: Replacement Window Size
I measured my old wooden counter-weight windows and they measure: 28.5 wide by 46 tall. Apparently they sell 28x46 windows (which are actually 27.75 wide) at home depot. Can I purchase these or should I special order 28.5 wide x 46 tall windows? Thanks.

That is not the sill, that is the bottom of the sash. It can be repaired with epoxies designed for repairing wood. Minwax makes one and is easy to find at big box stores. Doing a good job may not be so easy. Get out as much of the rotted wood as possible, stabilize with wood hardener(also Minwax), then use the epoxy. Build it up past the edges, then sand it down when it sets. Follow directions.

Add a piece of 1/4 X 3 1/4 plywood to each side which will make the opening to what you need for the stock size window. You may have to add 1/4 to the outside stops or seal it with a wider bead of caulk. You'll have to probably to change the inside stop to close in the extra gap.
